at now the dell laptops do not have windows seven home premiums.if u could wait for a few days u could get it free with ur laptops.first put on the cd into ur disk drive and restart ur system now after the dell logo appears it starts to boot and asks u to press any key.press any key and it starts to load the files and then follow the instructions.

Run the windows 7 setup when you’re logged into your computer. When it asks you "which type of installation do you want", click the first option, which is "Upgrade". Upgrading will keep all your files and documents, it will just transform your computer to windows 7.

If you are running Vista then run the disk while you are logged into Vista and do an upgrade. I would try to reformat the drive and do a fresh install, or partition the drive and see if it will let you dual boot it.
