@arre504 if your computer is really fragmented, it will make the cpu work more and slow it down, so it deoends on how fragmented your hard drive is. it took my laptop 4 hours to defragment and i noticed it ran games a little faster and smoother

i have a computer problem on windows 7.
My CPU keeps on peaking to 100% then dropping back down to atleast 80%.
This amount of CPU usage will of course slow down my computer. ._.
Please help me!
I’ve used Registry Easy, SpyBot Search And Destroy CCleaner and a scan with windows defender but it won’t flly fix te problem.
HELP!

why should I defrag my computer? does it get faster?
July 23rd, 2010 at 4:02 pm
I would imagine that at this point the windows 7 defragmentation program is more efficient and reliable than what comes with XP or Vista.
And perhaps this would be more cost effective than to use a commercial product like diskeeper to defragment?

July 23rd, 2010 at 4:02 pm
@068674415 They do different things, run both. There is another program you can run called WinDirStat that is a more powerful clean up tool.

@etcrCustomComputers Hey may i noe how often shld i defrag my HDD…like after how many % fragmented?
July 23rd, 2010 at 4:02 pm
Thanks for this easy tutorial =)
July 23rd, 2010 at 4:02 pm
That’s correct, but it does improve performance and will increase the life of the hard drive.
I’m not sure why I said that…I think I ran disk cleanup before that.
July 23rd, 2010 at 4:02 pm
Good Tutorial. My understanding is that all the disk defragmenter does is reorganize the scattered info on the hard drive so that the computer is able to read it faster. But it doesn’t delete anything therefore you won’t get more available memory space in the hard drive.
