put in the windows 7 disk (if you dont have one go buy one) then run the exe file then instead of clean install hit upgrade. Make sure your comp is plugged in and it should do basically everything for you

If the computer is 2-3 years old, I suggest buying a new 7200rpm hard drive and install 7 there.
This keeps your old installation and files intact, and performs an absolutely perfect install of 7 without risk.
Once 7 is up and running well, then you can copy the old files over to the new system with a $12 USB cable adapter.

More than likly you will have a free voucher coupon that says free upgrade to 7 between such and such months. Do what that says and itll give you instructions.
Now if your wanting two things.
I assume you say upgrade so ill tell you the easiest way first
Buy an upgrade disc to windows 7 home premium. Depending on your system youll want the 32 or 64 bit. Don not worry 64 bit is included and so is 32 its a package deal you get both. Now insert it run it and let it read your comp. Then itll tell you what to do from there simple. The disc is 120 bucks
option 2 Scew everything hp put on there and install a new os operating system. Bam fresh clean no software but an os no nothing. THats the full install disc not upgrade that is 200 bucks
On a side note Hp doesnt support windows 7

If you are updating from Winos XP or some higher version to Windows 7, an automatic update is run which backup all the data, installed files and saved application settings.
If you freshly install Windows 7 in your PC, it will remove all the installed applications and saved settings.

It’s as easy as putting the Win7 disc in your drive and running the installer.
