Windows 7 vs. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS boot up time comparison
My blog: encryptedsoldier.blogspot.com we felt for a little reason which my Ubuntu laptop booted up quicker than my law built Windows PC. Test bed: PC: Asus mobo AMD Phenom II X3 using @ 2.6Ghz Seagate barracuda 1tb 7200 rpm (SATA) Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Test bed: Ubuntu laptop: compaq presario f700 HP/Compaq customary mobo AMD turion/Athlon X2 using during 1.9ghz (when i checked in device physical education instructor it pronounced turion though if we demeanour online it says athlon though a chips have been identical) WD scorpio 160gb 5400 rpm HDD Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 32 bit Times: WIndows 7 Personal Computer = 39.99 seconds Ubuntu 10.04 LTS = 34.26

@Spoinkfawk the windows machine and linux are virtually identical after login in terms of speed they both take like 3 or 4 seconds.

Now from that screen you should time how long it takes until you can open your browser after log in…

Note:
In most cases the “:” signifies a separation between the left and right and can only be used once, where as a comma represents a list of items that will follow in orderly fashion in this case the button layout. REMEMBER never mess around with the first column.

Go to “Applications > System Tools > Configuration Editor”
Select “Apps > Metacity > General”
Click were it says “minimize,maximize,close:” next to “button_layout” on the second column. Apply your customizable preferences.

By default the buttons in Ubuntu 10.04 are placed on the left hand side rather than the right hand side as previous versions. If you are not happy with this look, you can modify it. The current set up is as followed:
minimize,maximize,close:
And it does not provide a visible “menu” option. You can change that by changing the set up as followed:
menu:minimize,maximize,close

@Nanotech233 okay I will look into the Ubuntu tweaks it sounds good, and yes when I started using ubuntu in ’07 it was a pain to configure especially the video and wifi.
